Vitamin D cures cancer?

I’m not going to make any claims, such as “vitamin cures cancer”, but this vitamin has certainly peaked my attention.  Lately I’ve come across much information about the benefits of Vitamin D.  So I decided to do some of my ovitamin d 150x150 Vitamin D cures cancer?wn research.  In doing my homework, I came to learn that vitamin D deficiency has been linked to ailments and diseases like:

  • Cancer
  • Depression
  • Flu and other infections
  • Diabetes 1 and 2
  • Hypertension
  • Autism
  • Asthma

Thus, aparently many doctors even test for vitamin D now.  Unfortunately, there is controversy around the effectiveness of some of these tests (see Dr. Mercola’s article).  Regardless of the controversy around testiing, it has become apparent that vitamin D has been associated with some benefits.  Some of these benefits include evidence that suggests vitamin D improves neuromuscular perfornance in older individuals.  It improves better body balance, less hip faractures and in some cases even increase hair growth.  I could go on about many of the other benefits, but I trust that  a simple Google search would lead you to many more of its benefits.  Thus, I chose to just share some resources that may help you learn more about this nurturing vitamin and where to get a good source of vitamin D.

Before I go any further, as with most nutrients and compounds, it is always best to get them from their natural sources, and vitamin D is no exception.  Of course, the best way to get the right amount of vitamin D is to spend some time in the sun. Remember, that “some” time doesn’t mean to go out and get sunburned.  A good 20 minutes to a couple of hours can have great results, depending where you live.  If you live closer to the equator, you may not need to be out there as long.  Ask me how I know…I got toasted this last summer out in Costa Rica in less than 1 hour.  So be careful.

Also, it is worthwhile mentioning that not all vitamin D is the same.  The one being referenced in this article is  vitamin D3, so keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that if you choose to supplement, then it would be wise to monitor your levels of vitamin DPress here for some resources to help you test your levels.

I’ll also just add this quick video that may help you learn more on the topic:
